Volunteer / Partnering Info
Business support is critical to the success of the Utah Scholars program. Businesses and their representatives often support the initiative by:
- Delivering the Utah Scholars message via a standardized PowerPoint presentation of eighth and ninth graders shortly before they select the courses they will take throughout high school (February - March)
- Finding a school, class, or student to sponsor
- Supporting the scholar's journey by providing tutoring and mentoring assistance to those who may need it
- Providing incentives and motivators to help students stay focused and engaged in the Utah Scholars course of study
- Volunteering to give an 8th grade classroom presentation
The Utah Scholars program is recruiting business leaders to make presentations in 8th grade classrooms, helping students make the connection between paths they choose in high school and their future potential. Participating as a presenter is a fun way to engage students to take on greater challenges. The commitment for presenters is as follows:
- Attend one training meeting to learn how this initiative works and practice presenting the PowerPoint presentation called "Great Expectations, Great Rewards" (approx. a 2 hour time commitment)
- Make the same "Great Expectations, Great Rewards" presentation to students in 8th grade classrooms (approx. 2-4 hour commitment)
- If interested, assist in presenting the Utah Scholars initiative to a participating group during the school year (approx. 1 hour commitment)
